Tesco Bengaluru brings on board Sumit Mitra as CEO

Tesco Bengaluru, the technology and retail operations team for Tesco, has announced the appointment of Sumit Mitra as its CEO, said a company statement issued today. Mitra, who will start later this year, succeeds Glen Attewell, who served as CEO at Tesco Bengaluru for four years.

Mitra will be joining the company from BT, where he is currently managing director, central business services and India country manager. He will lead Tesco’s operations in India as well as continue its work to deliver a best-in-class service model.

Mitra has held various roles across Asia and Europe over the past 16 years.

Tesco Bengaluru is the only technology and retail operations centre that caters to Tesco’s growth and presence globally by serving millions of customers worldwide. It was set up in May 2004 to enable standardisation and build centralised capabilities and competencies which can be leveraged across the Tesco Group. The range of work done at the company covers the entire spectrum of retail - technology, business, finance, commercial and supply chain and property services.
