Ransomware attack: IT Ministry to host a webcast today at 11 am
Stung by the ransomware attack that has computer affected systems all over the world, the IT Ministry is taking no chances and is hosting a webcast to spread awareness about the deadly cyber attack.

In a release, the ministry said that the webcast on the topic "Prevention of WannaCry Ransomware Threat", to be delivered by CERT-In, will be broadcast on http://webcast.gov.in/cert-in/ on 15th May 2017 at 11 AM.

The ransomware, named as "Wannacry" encrypts the files on infected Windows systems. This ransomware spreads by exploiting vulnerable Windows Systems. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has issued advisory regarding prevention of this threat.

India is among the most vulnerable because a large number of organisations and individuals still rely on older, outdated versions of the Windows operating system. The country also has the highest number of pirated software users.
