MUMBAI: Infosys' chief financial officer Rajiv Bansal, who will leave that role on October 12, said he was looking at a number of challenging opportunities in the future.

Bansal's resignation came as a shock, with many analysts and investors questioning his reason for moving.

"I am looking for something more exciting, more challenging. I want to do something new. It's sad to leave something to leave something you have been associated with for the last 16 years. But life moves on and transitions are a fact of life, people come, people go," Bansal said.

Infosys named company veteran and strategic operations head Ranganath D Mavinakere as Bansal's replacement. Bansal will stay with Infosys in an advisory role until the end of year.

But he added that the reporters at the press conference would meet him again in his future role.

"Our paths will cross again. Whether it will be at a private equity fund, a large business house or a startup, I can't say at the moment. But I am looking forward to working in a value-creation space."
