Nilekani, who recently threw his weight behind the Infosys founders in their standoff with the board and management, has the credibility and political capital to act as a conduit between the warring board and the founders.
Nilekani isn't expected to take a formal position in Infosys, even in a non-executive post. He has been behind the scenes supporting N R Narayana Murthy, Infosys's first CEO.
NR Narayana Murthy has sought the board's response on former CFO Rajiv Bansal's unusually high severance pay. Murthy and some of the other co-founders had objected to the steep compensation increases granted to former CEO Vishal Sikka and former COO U B Pravin Rao. Murthy feels the board has
compromised the values of the company. Nilekani had been an adviser to Murthy in the past on issues concerning the founders, but has chosen to stay away from the public glare in acknowledging his role in defusing the promoter-board tussle.
