Mysore will be first to get UID numbers
Mysoreans can take pride in being the first in the country to be assigned Unique ID numbers. The UIDAI tested its mechanism in April-May across Mysore and Tumkur districts.
Now that the Mysore district administration has an action plan in place, the UIDAI and Karnataka's e-governance department will allot Aadhaar, the 12-digit UID numbers, in October. UIDAI deputy director-general Ashok Dalwai on Wednesday said: ''The mechanism to allot the numbers has been fine-tuned here and the system is ready to allot the numbers, the first in India.''
Pilot projects were launched elsewhere in the nation. Andhra Pradesh is also ready to issue the numbers but it could take some more time. The enrolment agencies are ready and the ground work to set up enrolment centres is on, he explained.
The protocol devised by Karnataka will be replicated across India. The allotment will start in mid-October and completed by the year-end. Simultaneously, Tumkur district will also be covered by year-end.
