MP gives go ahead to Genpact delivery centre
? The MP government has given the go ahead for the first delivery centre to be set up by Genpact in Bhopal.
“The state government has allotted the land in a memorandum of understanding signed signed with the company today. We will now work towards building a delivery centre there,” said Genpact officials. The firm has already set up some hiring centres in MP to recruit employees from the state. Initially, these employees will work out of other centres like Jaipur and Gurgaon.
“Once the Bhopal centre is up and ready, these employees will be given the option to take a transfer we will offer the option of a transfer to these employees,” Ashok Tyagi, senior vice president, Genpact said.
At one point Genpact had scaled up its operations in Jaipur in the same manner. The time between the land allottment and the completion of construction, is used to train employees.
So, once the centre comes up, the company does not have to snoop around for talent. The existing employees from other centres are given an option to take a transfer.
Genpact has effectively changed the landscape of Gurgaon with more than 7,000 employees in that city. The impact of its centre in Jaipur can also be felt, with malls, hotels and other support infrastructure coming up. Other BPOs have also started looking at the city since Genpact employee base offers a good poaching ground.
The last year has seen IT majors like IBM, Dell, Cognizant and Satyam unveiling plans for cities like Coimbatore, Mangalore and Vizag. Wipro and TCS too have gone ahead with their SEZ plans in Gujarat.
More recently the attention of several MNCs has been drawn to tier-2 cities like Pune, Jaipur and Chandigarh, thanks to a near saturation in bigger cities. Besides, salaries and attrition rates are lower in smaller cities. This week the Tamil Nadu government also said that it would promote cities like Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelveli and Hosur for development of IT infrastructure. Chandigarh alone is estimated to have 5 mn sq ft of IT space under construction.
