Kerala's IT sector growing, says CM
With many companies opening units in Kerala, the IT sector of the state has been on a growth trajectory, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan informed the state assembly.
The boom in the IT sector has enhanced job availability and has boosted software exports in the last two years, the Chief minister said.
To expand the IT infrastructure in the state, the government has embarked upon a project to create IT parks in all districts, besides strengthening facilities at Technopark near the state capital and Infopark in Kochi, Achuthanandan said in a reply furnished in the house.
These projects would add 88 lakh square feet to the existing IT base, he said.
In the state-managed Technopark and Infopark, 71 new companies had been set up during last two years, creating 22,517 direct employment and at least three times more indirect jobs, he said.
The state exported software products worth valued at Rs 1,568 crore in 2007-08.
Work is going on in the technocity near Thiruvananthapuram as well as cyber park in Kozhikode and district IT parks in Kollam Alappuzha, Kasargode, Thrissur and Kannur, he said.
