BANGALORE: Probably in a first of its kind, the Karnataka government will launch in November a computer proficiency test, via online centres in different parts of the state, and its results could come in handy for IT and BPO recruiters to gauge the manpower available.

The test will assess applicants on key board skills, PC skills like Windows functions, MS Excel and e-mail proficiency test, according to M N Vidyashankar, Secretary to Department of IT, BT, S & T, Government of Karnataka.

The tests will be administered to registered candidates in on-line testing centres in Mysroe, Mangalore, Hubli, Gulbarga and Belgaum to begin with and will later be extended to all cities in the state, he said.

Every candidate would receive a detailed feedback on his or her skills based on the performance of the test. An e-certificate will be issued which will highlight the strengths and opportunities available to each candidate.
