The proposed IT town policy can boost India���s urbanisation programme. More importantly, proper implementation of this policy can result in urbanisation in an even manner, and this will unshackle metros and big cities which are facing the problems of incessant migration from villages.

The existing tax concession for IT exports would continue for another year. But, obviously, the government can���t allow IT companies to be out of the tax net in perpetuity. The proposed IT towns, which mainly provide the firms therein infrastructure facilities supported by the government, can also have IT SEZs and so this gives an opportunity for new investors in the sector to formulate their business plans, after factoring the cost cuts the township policy would offer.
