TIRUCHIRAPALLI: Four districts of Tamil Nadu have been chosen for a pilot project by the Information Technology ministry to introduce e-governance at the district-level administration.

The project would be implemented in Perambalur, Tiruvarur, Krishnagiri and Ariyalur districts of Tamil Nadu along with three districts in Bihar. The IT ministry has sanctioned Rs 12.57 crore for the pilot project.

After assessing the project implementation in these districts, the scheme would be extended to all other districts across the country in a phased manner, according to a press release from the ministry.

Under the project, activities of the district administration like redressal of public grievances, responding to queries under Right to Information Act and collection of taxes would be brought under e-governance and 'soft copies' of all important revenue documents would be made.

IT and Communications minister A Raja's constituency, Perambalur, would be allocated Rs 2.68 crore and will lead the project in the state, the release added.
