There was a time when BPO was more an acronym for Brighter Prospects & Opportunities. But things seem to have changed a bit what with the perceived lack of a clear cut career path for youngsters joining the sector. The negative sentiment is accentuated by the fact that the recent subprime crisis in the US had forced many mortgage and transaction processing-focused BPOs to shut shop in India. That seems to be adding to the insecurity involved with being employed in a sector dependent primarily on the health of the US economy.
