Infy all-women facility to open on January 15

The fairer sex who are employed in Infosys Technologies are all set to be pampered.

BANGALORE: The fairer sex who are employed in Infosys Technologies are all set to be pampered. The much awaited ‘all women’ working facility in the city would open its doors to ‘expecting’ Infosys women on January 15. “It is our way of showing concern to the lady workforce in the company,” said T V Mohandas Pai, the company’s HR director.

The facility, which will be housed in the former city office of Infosys, can accommodate 75 Infosys women employees. These could either be expecting mothers or women employees with infants. It is believed that women constitute over 25% of Infosys’ 55,000 plus employees.

Infosys’ city peer — Biocon — has a creche for children of its women employees. Interestingly, it is not just knowledge companies, but even scores of apparel exporting firms in and around the Electronic City that employ virtually an army of women. Unlike the IT/ITES firms, which employ skilled and educated women, apparel companies employ women from the lower strata of society with most of them being uneducated.
