Infosys and the West Bengal government will work together to address the issue of SEZ status to the IT major's Kolkata unit.

KOLKATA: Infosys and the West Bengal government will work together to address the issue of SEZ status to the IT major's Kolkata unit.

After meeting Infosys officials at the state secretariat here today, Industries Partha Chatterjee said, "We have communicated our views to the company for setting up a unit in the state."

"We have noted the issues and concerns raised by Infosys on various areas. Both decided to move forward in a meaningful manner," he added.

Chatterjee said that Infosys has sought a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a date would be fixed up shortly.

Binod Hampapur, senior vice-president, global head (commercial and corporate relations) of Infosys said, "Our intention is to come to West Bengal and we are having fruitful discussions with the government."

He said that the company would be looking at the options which would come up in the future for setting up the unit.

While Infosys was seeking SEZ status for the Kolkata unit, the state government was not keen in granting it.

Infosys had been given 50 acres of land at Rajarhat for setting up its first unit in the state.

"We are looking forward towards the meeting with chief minister where our executive chairman will also be present," he said.
