BENGALURU: Infosys appointed Andrew Groth as its new head for Australia and New Zealand after Jacqueline Korhonen decided to take the top role at Melbourne-based SMS Management and Technology.

This is the first region chief named in the four months since Vishal Sikka took over as the first non-founder chief executive at the country’s second largest software exporter.

Groth, who joined Infosys in 2010, will move into his new role on January 1 from being vice president, financial services, for Asia-Pacific region.

The move comes after Sikka underlined the opportunities in Australia, especially in helping many of its existing clients across the education, manufacturing and mining sectors in the digital space. For now, Infosys counts some of the continent’s largest companies, including Anglo American, BHP Billiton and Telstra among its customers.

Last month, Sikka reportedly met many clients on a three-day trip to Australia and discussed his strategy for making Infosys a next-generation services company and how this will help in scaling up business. A company spokeswoman confirmed the development.

Last month, Infosys announced it had won a deal from about 500 schools in Victoria to help them move to the Amazon Web Services cloud.
