Infosys bags deal to develop software app for Volvo cars' global operations

BANGALORE: Infosys on Monday said it has won a contract from Volvo cars to provide software application development services for the auto major’s global operations.

The multi-year contract would involve developing technology applications to support Volvo’s marketing and sales, customer service, manufacturing and product development functions, the Bangalore-based company said in a statement.

Nitesh Bansal, vice president, manufacturing for Infosys Europe said the contract reflects the company’s rising focus on the Nordic region and bolsters its presence in Sweden. Infosys has been working with Volvo Car’s since 2010. In November, the company had won a deal from Toyota Europe.

The contract comes as Indian software services companies are betting on Nordic region as the next big IT market within Europe. While Europe is the second largest market for the Indian IT sector, enterprises in Nordic and continental Europe prefer local software companies over offshore service providers.

Over the past few quarters, companies such as Infosys, HCL Technologies, TCS and Wipro have been building software delivery centers and hiring locals to win contracts from local governments and companies in this region.

Infosys stock was trading at Rs 3,389.45, up 0.95% on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
