BENGALURU: India’s backoffice firms such as EXL Services and Hinduja Global Solutions are looking at increasing their US staff strength on the back of growing business from clients in healthcare and retail sectors.

While backoffice firms traditionally have hired local graduates to meet client demand, as they become more focused on tech-enabled delivery of services, growing protectionism in the US has also made them to look for local engineers for such services. Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) stepped up local hiring to add nearly 400 Americans to meet the growing demand primarily from healthcare and retail sectors.

“Our onshore headcount has grown quite a bit in the US. We have grown from 2,600 to about 3,000 people (in the past 12 months),” said Partha DeSarkar, chief executive officer, HGS, adding that, “the company has been able to balance out offshore and and onshore growth.”

“We’re approaching the goal of acquiring the best talent at three different levels: First, we’re strengthening our talent acquisition teams across all businesses. To lead that process in the US, we have appointed a new Head of US Talent Acquisition from a top tier technology-oriented consulting company,” Rohit Kapoor, CEO of EXL, told analysts on November 3. He did not specify total hiring numbers. Indian software services exporters such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL Technologies and others have started ramping up hiring locally in the US as they see tightening of visa (H-1B) to deploy employees from India and other location on projects to the US.
