IBM launches operations in Coimbatore

IT major IBM India on Thursday launched its operations in the city as part of its expansion plans in southern India, targeting the Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) in the manufacturing sector.

COIMBATORE: IT major IBM India on Thursday launched its operations in the city as part of its expansion plans in southern India, targeting the Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) in the manufacturing sector.
Foraying into Coimbatore was part of IBM's plans to enter 14 new cities, which included Madurai, Kochi and Visakhapatnam in the South, IBM India Director (Global Small and Medium Business) Ramesh Narasimhan told reporters here.
IBM has earmarked USD 6 billion for its Indian operations this year.
With over 3,000 SMB customers in India, IBM's operations in the city would target various clients in government, banking and finance, retail, manufacturing, automotive, educational sectors among other, Narasimhan said.
