IBM inks pact with Nirma University, CII
Corporate giant IBM on Wednesday inked a pact with CII and Nirma University for launching a `Services Innovation Cell' (SICELL) at the university premises here.
The objective of this cell is to develop a repository of knowledge pertaining to the service sciences, engineering and management.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between IBM, Nirma University and the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).
"This cell will engage the industry with academic institutions", said Dravida Seetharam, Vice-President (government programme) who signed the MoU on behalf of IBM.
"Service skills is going to be future of the country. This sort of a cell will help us (IBM) do reserach on some of the services skills required to provide help to the unemployed", Seetharam told mediapersons here.
"It could be traditional skills like english teaching for the BPO sector or modern skills."
"IBM promoting services research as we feel that services science is going to be the future", Seetharam said, adding students in future could get service science degrees.
"We are looking at the Nirma Univestiy as a platform which connects entrepreuners, trainers and skill developers," the official said.
"We have floated this idea to various people in India and we have got good response", he said, adding IBM has inked similar pacts with FMS (Faculty of Management) Delhi University and Indian Schools of Business, Hyderabad.
