IBM bags Datacom’s $200 mn IT contract

Leading IT multinational IBM, which already has three large telecom outsourcing contracts, has bagged an estimated $200 million outsourcing contract from Videocon group-led telecom operator Datacom Solutions.

MUMBAI: Leading IT multinational IBM, which already has three large telecom outsourcing contracts, has bagged an estimated $200 million outsourcing contract from Videocon group-led telecom operator Datacom Solutions. The multinational firm pipped Hewlett Packard and Tech Mahindra to bag the contract, according to at least three officials familiar with the deal. The contract is likely to be signed this week.

���The contract is for three years and involves more of application development,��� an official said. Videocon Group chairman V N Dhoot said, ���As a new entrant in the telecom market in India, we understand the significance of partnering with a company that can provide the necessary impetus for growth.���

Avinash V Joshi, director for Communications sector, IBM India and South Asia, said, ���IBM has entered into a deal with Datacom Solutions to provide a high-performance IT infrastructure and a range of business solutions to support Datacom���s commercial launch this year. IBM aims to help Datacom in accelerating time-to-market for new services, adapt quickly to meet market requirements, reduce operating expenditures and enhance customer experience.
