NEW DELHI: HCL Technologies, India's fourth-largest information technology service provider, will invest $9 million to add 1,237 employees at its centre in North Carolina in the US by the end of 2018.

The jobs will be added at the company's centre in Cary, North Carolina.

The recruits will develop, maintain and upgrade software applications and provide services to global clients. The average annual payroll for the new jobs is expected to be almost $64 million, according to a statement from the State of North Carolina.

The Americas accounted for almost 56% of the company's revenue last year. HCL employs more than 8,000 people across 15 states in the US. The Cary centre cur rently has less than 1,000 people and HCL Technologies plans to expand and add 125,000 square feet and an equal or bigger number in the future, said Prithvi Shergill, chief human resource officer.

The project was made possible in part by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assist ance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.

"North Carolina has worked hard to establish itself as one of the leading states in the IT industry and we are getting results," said North Carolina Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker.
