Greater demand for IT services from small & medium businesses: IBM
Growth of Indian SMBs is helping IBM globally as these SMBs reach out to the co when they expand their operations internationally and seek higher-value services such as outsourcing and consulting.

BANGALORE: IBM expects to see greater demand for higher-value IT services and products from small and medium businesses (SMBs) in India as growth in the segment picks up and companies make a transition from expansion of their IT teams.
The growth of Indian SMBs is also helping IBM globally as these SMBs reach out to the company when they expand their operations internationally and seek higher-value services such as outsourcing and consulting, IBM general business general manager Steven Solazzo said.
IBM is experiencing ���strong double-digit growth��� in India, with the SMB segment generating about $500 million in revenue, accounting for half of its top line. India is also the fastest-growing SMB market globally for IBM, he said.
IBM���s general business, which handles the SMB segment accounts for 20% of IBM���s global revenue. ���We recognise that all our customers are in different stages of evolution and we try to bring to certain transformation,��� Mr Solazzo said.
IBM, which began to focus more sharply on the SMB segment about four years ago, has already made significant investments in India both to improve its domain capability and its market strategy.

While earlier the company���s business in India was very hardware oriented, with more firms showing rapid growth, the demand for value-added services was increasing, he observed.
The company provides services from 14 locations across India. IBM, whose marquee clients include Bharti Airtel, DLF and Idea Cellular, is keen on projecting an image that it is not just focused on serving large companies, Mr Solazzo said.
It is also now looking to transplant its experience in India to other growth markets and had formed a team to handle growth markets under a common management system to share experiences and what has been learnt here.
