Govt acquires land for Infosys in Hubli
BANGALORE: Karnataka government today said it has acquired land for Infosys Technologies to set up a unit with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore in Hubli.

Replying to a query by Opposition Leader Jagadish Shettar during question hour in the assembly, IT Minister S R Patil said, "the land has already been acquired and registered for this purpose and it will create 3,000 jobs."

The government has identified tier-2 cities such as Hubli-Dharwad, Shimoga, Mangalore, Mysore, Gulbarga, Tumkur and Belgaum for IT investments.

"The government has allowed exemption of stamp duty up to 75 per cent in Mysore and Mangalore for IT companies who want to set up their units," Patil said.

The IT companies are eligible power tariff concession of Rs 1.60 per unit and start-ups for plug and play space with internet connectivity at concessional rate, varying from Rs 5 to Rs 15 per square feet depending on location, Patil said.

He said KEONICS proposes to set up IT Park in Mangalore to cater to the IT units, particularly the small and medium enterprises.
