Globant from the other America is here to hire talent

PUNE: Even as Indian IT firms scale back on hiring and expansion plans, Buenos Aires-headquartered Globant just announced its aim to double its presence in India and to add more people globally.

Set up 15 years ago, Globant is now Argentina's biggest IT firm ­ its origin has an interesting India connection. “When we saw Indian IT firms doing well, we said there was no reason this couldn't be done out of Latin America,“ said Martin Migoya, CEO.

The company entered India through its acquisition of Clarice Technologies two years ago for an estimated $20 m, and has since doubled its headcount to about 500 with plans to take it up to 1,200.

“India is important for us. Once this expansion is complete, it would form about 20% of our total employee base. Our leaders here will help propel global growth,“ said Migoya. Globant cur rently has 35 develop ment centres across 11 countries and a workforce of about 6,000 people. It has 14 studios, spread across geographies that function as centers of excellence for emerging technologies. Pune for instance, does work in the areas of IoT, mobility, UX, cloud and AI among others.

Globant started off offering what's now known as digital transformation services to clients, well before the term was coined and was among the earliest external companies to work with Google back in 2006.

“We operate in a segment where demand is growing at 25-30% unlike traditional IT, which is growing at 2-3%; the market is growing at five times the pace of traditional IT, which is why we still continue to grow,“ said Guibert Englebienne, the CTO of Globant.

He said today, every organisation was potentially a software firm. Migoya said the company was focussed on helping companies increase revenue than save costs, which explained why it continued to see robust demand.
