Genpact to beef up Kolkata staff

The Kolkata facility has been built at an investment of Rs 15 crore towards building infrastructure and IT backbone.

KOLKATA: Genpact, a leading IT services and technology solutions firm, will be ramping up its Kolkata workforce to 5000 associates by 2010. At present, some 375-odd associates work at Genpact’s city unit.

In a company release issued on Tuesday, Genpact’s Kolkata site leader, Mr Indranil Choudhury said: “With a large talent pool and a favourable industrial climate, Kolkata is an important location for Genpact. We have been servicing some of our major global clients from here.”

Genpact on Tuesday inaugurated an 80,000-sq ft facility leased out at the DLF IT Park in Rajarhat on the eastern fringes of the city. The centre, which was inaugurated by West Bengal’s IT minister Debesh Das, has a 1000-seat capacity. The facility has been built at an investment of Rs 15 crore towards building infrastructure and IT backbone.

Genpact will undertake knowledge process outsourcing services, primarily in the field of finance and accounting, business analytics, software development, IT helpdesk support and insurance for clients worldwide.

Incidentally, Genpact established a local hiring office last year to scout for talent for its nationwide operations. Over a 1000 candidates have since been recruited from the state and deployed at Genpact centres in Gurgaon, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
