EMC bets on opportunities in India, A-Pac

With developed markets in the US and Europe slowing down, the company expects emerging markets in Asia-Pacific to open up new opportunities.

HYDERABAD: EMC, US-based data storage firm, is betting big on the small and medium business (SMB) segment in India. With developed markets in the US and Europe slowing down, the company expects emerging markets in Asia-Pacific to open up new opportunities.

The company is also planning to double its partner network in India in a year to explore the market further.

India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the Asia-Pacific segment. Even though there could be a slowdown in the countrys GDP, we expect the market to throw open more opportunities, as 80% of the countrys GDP is fuelled by internal consumption, said UR Acharya, vice-president (commercial), EMC Data Storage Systems.

To cater to an emerging market in India, the $13.2-billion company had set up a separate team to focus on the SMB segment in India.

Business from the SMB segment is growing at 60% and we expect the growth to continue. IT & ITeS, manufacturing and BFSI, especially Indian banks are driving our growth in the country, he said.
