BPO agent arrested in data theft scam

CID was looking for Sushant Chandak after US based television Channel 4 exposed him in a sting operation.

KOLKATA: Sushant Chandak, who was exposed by UK-based Channel 4 as an alleged middleman for illegal sale of confidential financial and personal data from BPOs, surrendered before the police on Wednesday.

DIG(O), CID) Rajib Kumar said Chandak, who offered to sell a database with credit card details of 2,00,000 people as commercial leads, was called for interrogation and was later arrested.

"Sushant Chandak, who was absconding so far, surrendered before the CID," his counsel Anuj Singh said.

Chandak, who had boasted of a network of agents in call centres across India, would be produced at the Barrackpore case in North 24 Parganas district tomorrow.

CID was looking for Chandak after US based television Channel 4 exposed him in a sting operation.

An FIR was filed against him by the national IT body Nasscom after the expose.

In addition to credit card numbers, Chandak was also offering passport numbers, driving licence and personal banking details.
