BENGALURU: Consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture has named Rekha Menon as its new India chairman to succeed Avinash Vashistha who resigned in July.

Accenture also appointed Anindya Basu as its new country managing director for India. Both the appointments will be effective August 21.

"Rekha has made impressive contributions to our people and our communities,” said Gianfranco Casati, Accenture’s group chief executive, growth markets. “Her experience will be extremely valuable as we continue to build our brand and enhance our reputation as a leader in India.”

In his new role, Basu will be responsible for driving Accenture’s domestic business in India and building relationships with key clients, the company said in a statement.

Menon, who currently is the head of human resources for growth markets at Accenture, is Accenture's first woman head in India, continuing a recent trend of multinational technology firms in India appointing women leaders. IBM named Vanitha Narayanan as its India managing director in 2013, while Neelam Dhawan and Kumud Srinivasan enjoy similar roles at HP and Intel respectively.

Last week Accenture had confirmed the resignation of former chairman Vashistha and said it would soon announce his replacement.
