ZTE rejigs Indian operations

China-based telecom equipment vendor ZTE Corporation on Thursday said it has identified India as a key strategic market and had made its Indian operations as a stand-alone entity.

New Delhi: China-based telecom equipment vendor ZTE Corporation on Thursday said it has identified India as a key strategic market and had made its Indian operations as a stand-alone entity.

The company also announced appointment of Huang Dabin as the CEO of India operations. ZTE had earlier appointed Dilip Kumar Ghosh as its chairman and managing director.

ZTE had started the Indian operations in 2001. Its customers include large telecom operators such as BSNL, MTNL, Reliance Infocom and Tata Infocom. It has a dedicated customer support engineering center along with a training and R&D centre which is located in Bangalore. The company has also established a full-fledged manufacturing facility in Manesar near Gurgaon in Haryana.

ZTE equipment currently accounts for 85 per cent of BSNL's CDMA market. It has also undertaken Tata Telecom's national rural telecom project and helped Reliance expand its CDMA network at the speed of one million new users per month.

Before taking over as CEO of Indian operations, Huang Dabin was vice-president of ZTE's network division and was in charge of the marketing system of fixed-lined products. He had joined ZTE as an R&D engineer after graduation.
He successively took responsibilities in R&D management as well as marketing and sales management, led some successful projects such as China Telecom, one of the biggest operators in the world.

With many years of experience in R&D and market positions, he led marketing team of network division to introduce the "Fixed-Line 3G" solution creatively under the situation that fixed-line network operators are completely transforming, which helped carriers to build a future-oriented generation of network.
