MUMBAI: While most Indian customers are besotted by the Smart TVs which are flooding the market, these TV sets could be hacked by cyber criminals, a Kaspersky Lab research said Monday.

Even as more people continue to include the internet and app based products in their daily lives, the hackers are increasingly targeting this internet-of things (IoT).

“Kaspersky Lab researchers have discovered serious threats to the connected home, which include a coffee-maker that exposes the homeowner’s Wi-Fi password, a baby video monitor that can be controlled by a malicious third-party, and a smartphone-controlled home security system that can be fooled with a magnet,” the research report said.

In India too more people are now increasing their usage of such products as people’s disposable income increase along with the penetration of the internet.

The Kaspersky Lab report also pointed out that even the smart TV could be targeted. The criminals could not only monitor what the customers were watching on their TV, but could also collect data amongst the other things, say industry trackers.
