Yahoo! India operations to remain unaffected

India operations of Yahoo have been fairly steady in recent years but employees are worried about the frequent changes at the global level.

BANGALORE: Yahoo India is a distant outpost in Yahoo's global empire and its revenues a speck in the corporation's overall numbers. So, Carol Bartz's firing should not mean much to employees here. But there is a pervading sense of nervousness across Yahoo India as the incident highlights yet another failed strategy at the one-time poster child of the Internet era.

India operations of Yahoo have been fairly steady in recent years but employees are worried about the frequent changes at the global level.

There has been no executive-level change in India in the past two years, so we are quite okay. But changes in the global set-up has been a source of concern," an employee told ET on the condition of anonymity.

Yahoo India managing director Arun Thadanki said he cannot comment on the impact of the changes at Yahoo.

"There will be some churn and poaching. But, on the other hand, the India centre has critical mass because it has full ownership of certain products and, to a certain extent, is not dependent on the US for its day-to-day operations. At one level, it is well-positioned to ride the storm out," said former Yahoo India R&D head Sharad Sharma.
