NEW DELHI: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been closely monitoring the performance of service providers against the Quality of Service (QoS) benchmarks through Quarterly Performance Monitoring Reports (PMRs) received from the service providers.

The analysis of the PMRs indicates that some of the service providers are not meeting the quality of service benchmarks in respect of some of the QoS parameters. Apart from monitoring of the QoS through Quarterly Performance Monitoring Reports, TRAI also undertakes objective assessment of the QoS of Basic and Cellular Mobile Services through an independent agency.

Based on the analysis of performance monitoring reports of service providers and report submitted by independent agency for the four quarters in the year 2006-07, service providers were informed in June, 2007 by TRAI about shortfall in achieving certain benchmarks of QoS parameters specified in the regulation on QoS of Basic and Cellular Mobile Telephone Services, 2005.

TRAI held meetings individually with the service providers this month and expressed its concern for the poor quality of service provided by them in respect of certain parameters both for Basic and Cellular Mobile Services.

At these meetings, TRAI asked the service providers to work out an action plan to meet the QoS parameters.
