TRAI mediates in Bharti, VSNL, RCOM feud over undersea cable
TRAI had convened a meeting of the three International Long Distance Operators to resolve the contentious issue of sharing of cables.

NEW DELHI: Telecom regulator TRAI is believed to have told the three telecom firms - Reliance Communications VSNL and Bharti - to put aside differences and cooperate till undersea cables were repaired for an uninterrupted internet services in the country.
TRAI had convened a meeting of the three International Long Distance Operators to resolve the contentious issue of sharing of cables in the wake of the recent global internet breakdown that impacted services in India.
Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications, which owns Flag and Falcon undersea cables, raised the issue of unviable commercial terms offered by other players and this was delaying the restoration process.
TRAI, sources said, would look into whether Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) was being complied with by the operators.
The internet services in several parts of the country have been disrupted after the undersea cables passing through Egypt ruptured last week.
Although the operators have been able to provide internet services, but the speed has been affected and officials say it may take about 15 days for the services to normalise.
TRAI officials said all the operators were of unanimous in that the industry must cooperate to tide over the problem.
