Third edition of Google for India: Google Go, Tez and more power to JioPhone

NEW DELHI: Google today gave a distinction to Reliance JioPhone by making it the first feature phone with Google Assistant support. The feature is specially built for India and is available in both Hindi and English. The new features were launched at 'Google for India' event in Delhi today.

"The Assistant can help make phone calls, text, play music and videos, navigate and search the internet, and access other apps and services," said Google.

Google will also roll out latest version of its payments app Tez in coming months. The latest version will support features like payment of utility bills directly from the account.


Beside this, Google also launched the Android Oreo (Go Edition) and an app Google Go (for Android Oreo) in India targetting entry-level smartphones. Google Go has three special features. It has tap-first user interface which helps people explore new ideas, find things to share and guide them around the web. Second, it is light on storage and data, and great on patchy connections, said Google in its blog. Third, it’s very easy to switch and see answers in another language, for example, between Hindi and English.

* Two-wheeler mode in Google Maps to help provide short-cut routes to motorcycle and scooter riders.
