NEW DELHI: Websites of various ministries and state-run departments today went down for a few hours due to a technical glitch in the server of NIC, but were later restored.

National Informatics Centre (NIC) is the agency that handles IT functions of the government.

"All sites are up and running from 1430 hrs," Department of Information Technology Secretary J Satyanarayana said.

There was a UPS (interruptible power supply) failure at 1130 hours (at NIC control room), he said.

The websites went down due to a UPS failure at the NIC control room, he said, adding that during a routine maintenance work, some of the wires have been changed and the failure took place due to misfunctioning of one of the wires.

NIC was established in 1976 to provide e-government and e-governance solutions adopting best practices, integrated services and global solutions in the government sector.
