Shopclues.com names ex-PayU India exec as technology vertical head

India’s first managed marketplace ShopClues.com has roped in PayU India’s director of engineering Gyanesh Sharma as AVP – Engineering and will lead the company’s technology vertical.

Shopclues.com intends to develop a robust cloud-based e-commerce operating platform that empowers ShopClues sellers in increasing their business outreach and volume and delivers augmented value to customers. Sharma will lead this mission.

Sanjay Sethi, Co-founder and CEO, ShopClues.com confirmed the development. “We aim to raise the bar tremendously as far as the cloud-based operating system goes and Gyanesh is just the right person to lead the change from the front.”

Sharma has worked in various capacities with technology-based companies in a career spanning nearly a decade. An alumnus of the prestigious IIT-Delhi, his most recent association was with PayU India where he was instrumental in supporting and updating PayU’s payment infrastructure leading to the highest transactional success rate in the market.

Sharma will be looking to open the ShopClues platform to tap excellent developer talent and solve the ecosystem challenges that exist in conducting business in the digital world.

ShopClues is among India’s e-commerce companies with over 60 million monthly visitors. Founded in July 2011 in Silicon Valley, the now Gurgaon-based company is team of over 850 people and is funded by leading institutional investors. It had raised over $100 million in a Series D funding round in January this year led by Tiger Global and included investment from existing investors.

ShopClues claims to have more than 250,000 merchants on its platform and have listed over 3 crore products. Till now, it has raised $116.3 million in 5 funding rounds from Sandeep Aggarwal, Nexus Venture Partners, LionBird, Helion Venture Partners and Tiger Global Management.
