Shivaji's profile on Orkut: Three more held by Pune police

Three more software engineers were arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell of Pune Police at Bangalore.

PUNE: Three more software engineers were arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell of Pune Police at Bangalore in connection with posting an obscene profile of Maratha warrior king Shivaji on a social networking website.

This follows the recent arrest of one Laxman Kailas, a Bangalore-based software engineer who allegedly uploaded the defamatory matter on the community page of Orkut in November last year, in which the revered icon was shown clad in female innerwear.

The fresh arrests were effected on October 3. The three - Manjunath Betegowda, Harish Shetty and Kiran Reddy - were produced before a court here yesterday and remanded to police custody till October 14.

According to the police, the trio had joined hands with Kailas to upload the objectionable profile of the 17th century king.

An investigation into the episode was launched after a complaint was filed by Bharatiya Janata Yuva activist Dheeraj Ghate, alleging the said profile had hurt the sentiments of people.
