Reliance Jio probing possible data breach of millions of subscribers
NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio on Sunday said it was probing a report on a website that sensitive details including mobile numbers and Aadhar number of millions of its subscribers had been allegedly leaked on the internet, but argued that the claim was "un-verified" and "unsubstantiated".

The most recent entrant into India's competitive telecom space said in a statement that it had informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and would follow up with "strict action". It assured subscribers that their data with the company was safe.

"We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security," a Jio spokesperson said.

Jio had over 112 million users as of April end, as per the telecom regulator’s website. "Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken," the company added.

On Sunday, tech website FoneArena said that customer data of nearly 120 million users had been leaked on an independent website named magicapk.
