Reliance Jio mulls attractive postpaid plans, MNP facility to take on rivals: Report

NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio is planning to launch attractive post-paid plans with up to 5-10 times more data and free voice, video minutes, compared to other post-paid plans available in the market, TelecomTalk reported.

"Free benefits or Zero rental can be availed for first few months after taking a connection or porting to Jio, depending on plans," the report said, adding that Jio has tested Mobile Number Portability ( MNP) facility among its own employees in Kolkata.

With the MNP facility, Jio will target customers from rival networks who are currently paying a lot for mobile data services.
ET earlier this week reported that Jio is entering into partnerships with almost all smartphone makers to bundle three months of free data and voice with handsets to ramping up users rapidly while providing a push to smartphone sales.

Buyers of the bundled devices will be given an access code that they can use to get a SIM card that will allow them to access the Jio network immediately. The three months of free data and talk plan will continue if Jio does not commercially launch its services and tariff plans by then.

The company is currently testing a wide array of 4G voice over LTE (VoLTE) handsets for network compatibility with a focus on dual-SIM models so that a Jio subscription can easily fit in as a second connection. With this, the company will also be opening up services to smartphones other than its own Lyf brand.

While the company opened up its network to staff and others last year, ET recently reported that the much-delayed commercial launch may take place next month. Reliance Jio already has more than 1.5 million subscribers, which include customers of its Lyf smartphones, employees and business partners including retailers.
