Reliance Jio extends three-month unlimited data preview offer to Samsung smartphone users

NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio Infocomm has extended its three-month unlimited data preview offer to Samsung smartphone users in India, a move aimed at increasing the Mukesh Ambani-led telco’s subscriber base ahead of its commercial launch.

Users of certain Samsung smartphones will be offered free unlimited 4G data and 4,500 minutes of voice calls, unlimited video calls and SMS and Jio Premium apps during the period.

This is similar to the plan offered only to users of Reliance Retail’s Lyf-branded smartphones. Although the offer hasn’t been officially announced, this could be the first bundling deal between Reliance Jio and a third-party handset vendor.

Samsung is also the sole equipment vendor for Reliance Jio’s mobile network across India. Reliance Jio and Samsung Electronics, India’s No. 1 smartphone maker, didn’t revert to ET’s queries on this bundling tieup.

“Jio will get access to a bigger user base due to the Samsung partnership. Jio may also want to ensure that its content services reach the maximum devices,” said Tarun Pathak, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Technology Market Research.
