Portfolio management too gets mobile

Now, a portfolio management system that allows the user of a Blackberry or handheld computer to buy, sell and track the stocks is in the offing.

AHMEDABAD: It’s all about arming the dashing, techno-savvy executive with technology. From e-mail-on-the-go to enterprise resource planning applications on their mobiles, tech companies are doing everything to keep execs abreast of the happenings. Now, a portfolio management system that allows the user of a Blackberry or handheld computer to buy, sell and track the stocks is in the offing.

To manage their portfolio of shares, an Ahmedabad-based company has developed a software that can help buy, sell or track the movement of shares his Blackberry, or any high-end GPRS phone having symbian OS (Nokia and Sony Ericsson) and pocket PC (Microsoft), O2, HP or I-mate phones.

Financial Technologies India, flagship company of Financial Technologies group, and Hutch may have come together to launch the first mobile dealing desk through the Orange wireless service in Mumbai in alliance with stock broking firms Kotak Securities and Sunidhi Consultancy Services, but Kanaga Network Solution (KNS) has gone a step ahead to offer portfolio management services across all platforms.

“We are providing integrated solutions on Blackberry as well as phones using Microsoft operating system,” said KNS head of operations (Ahmedabad) Samir Chokshi. Hutch GPRS handset users get connected and see market rates. They can enter, modify or cancel orders, view their positions and transactions through a fully-secured channel.

This makes it possible for the financial companies to provide real-time data to their customers and the much-needed mobility for the CEOs.

For the last year or two, mobile phone technology is being used to send text messages informing customers of account details, special offers, tickers which can help track the stocks. However, providing PMS option on mobile phones needs an advanced technology. It requires increased bandwidth and faster data download capabilities of 2.5G and 3G phones.

WAP-enabled mobile phones and handheld computer devices are ready to take share trading out of the office and into the coffee shops - anywhere where a mobile device can access internet. To tap this opportunity, companies like KNS have come up with the PMS on mobile. The company has developed software that can help the customers buy, sell and track the movement in the stocks. Targeted towards big broking houses, the software once installed on the server, will provide the end-user direct access to market information and news, real-time stock quotes and trading options.

The company is in talks with the big broking houses and financial companies with the software.

“We are talking to Anagaram as well as Sharekhan apart from other financial services company. The product will help the companies to have another channel to serve their customers,” says Chokshi. Anagaram official said this will help our high-end customers to be constantly connected to the market through their mobile phone. KNS is a company based out of Silicon Valley and has its office in Ahmedabad. It has expertise in wireless device based application, wireless network infrastructure and enterprise mobility.

IT companies also provide ERP applications on phones. ERP applications integrate all data and processes of an organisation into a unified system.

It is a unified database to store data for various system modules. This can track the processes like manufacturing, supply chain management, projects, finances, human resources, customer relationship management, sales and marketing to data warehousing. “Our products and solutions are designed especially for the CEOs. We want to serve the niche market,” says Chokshi.

It may be recalled that Net4Nuts, has developed e-mail-on-mobile, or a pull e-mail service, which can help access e-mails even for entry-level GPRS-enabled cell phones. The pull e-mail service costs one-tenth of the push e-mail offered by Blackberry for Hutch and Airtel as well as Ericsson for Idea.

“The service has been targeted towards individuals as well as executives and CEOs of small and medium enterprises across the developing economies,” says Net4nuts CEO Chirag Patel. The company’s server fetches e-mails from the mail server, which can be accessed with the help of a GPRS-enabled mobile.
