Oscar de la Renta launches perfume on Facebook

LOS ANGELES: High fashion met Facebook with Oscar de la Renta launching his much awaited new fragrance, his first in ten years, on the social networking website.

The designer to the stars, is giving away samples of the new 'Esprit d'Oscar' scent to those who 'like' the label's page.

As part of the viral campaign, other official announcements have appeared on the brand's Twitter and Tumblr accounts, directing readers to Facebook.

The company describes the blend as "a floral-oriental fragrance", the first scent released by the label since it reacquired its fragrance license in January 2010, following an 18-month legal dispute with its American distributor, L'Oreal.

The Oscar de la Renta Facebook page has already surpassed that with 131,783 'likes' and the followers will receive a sample worth USD 78.
