Online buying to grow 150%, says Assocham
With changing lifestyle and shopping habits, particularly in metros, e-commerce is likely to rise by 150% to touch Rs 5,500-crore mark this fiscal compared to Rs 2,200 crore last fiscal, according to industry body Assocham.
NEW DELHI: With changing lifestyle and shopping habits, particularly in metros, e-commerce is likely to rise by 150% to touch Rs 5,500-crore mark this fiscal compared to Rs 2,200 crore last fiscal, according to industry body Assocham.
Assocham president Venugopal Dhoot said: “Changing lifestyle, shopping habits and large number of people becoming net savvy are some of the major factors contributing to the growth of e-commerce in metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.”
While Delhi’s share in the entire e-commerce transactions was 20% last year, Mumbai was able to grab a 24% share during the same period. Share of Delhi and Mumbai in the country’s e-commerce transactions is likely to go up to 30% and 40%, respectively, this fiscal.
The products likely to sell the most include gems and jewellery, books, accessories, apparel, gift items, music and movies, the chamber said.
