DUBAI: The Emirates' new integrated telecommunications service provider, Du, and social networking website Facebook have announced free mobile browsing of the new 0.facebook.com website for its customers.

The 0.facebook.com website is a faster, lightweight version of Facebook's mobile site m.facebook.com. The new site does not have graphics or photos and the pages have been designed for optimum performance on the state-of-the-art telecommunications network in the Emirates.

Du customers would be able to stay connected through Facebook with their friends and family from any mobile web browser without incurring any data charge.

However, to view a photo on Facebook, one needs to click on a link to the photo and they will be prompted that they are leaving 0.facebook.com. Standard data charges will apply when a person leaves 0.facebook.com to view photos.

"Our mobile phone customers in the UAE are the first in the Middle East to experience this innovative service, in partnership with Facebook. With social media, and in particular Facebook, becoming an integral part of peoples' lives, from social use to business-related social media platforms, Du understands the continually evolving needs and demands of its modern customers" Farid Faraidooni, Du's chief commercial officer, said on Tuesday.
