Here's another proof of perils of social media. A tweet about a forthcoming Nokia phone cost a Microsoft employee his job. Joe Marini, a Windows Phone principal program manager, has reportedly left the company after being told that he violated Microsoft's social-media policy, according to a report.

Marini left the company after learning that he would be asked to leave for offending the company's social media conduct, reports Geekwire.

Earlier this month, All Things Digital reported that Marini tweeted: "I just got a chance to try out one of the slickest looking #Nokia phones I have ever seen. Soon, you will too!" The tweet had a Windows Phone 7 hashtag, #WP7.

Marini reportedly sent subsequent tweets about the device, including one that rated it an "8" and another that said "the camera was good, but I didn't have optimal lighting. I'd like a larger screen too."

The software giant has already put in place set rules for employees using social networking sites asking them to exercise good judgment and "be smart" when blogging. It also further adds, "...Most importantly, to preserve Microsoft's rights to protect its innovations through patents, do not disclose or describe any new features, functionalities, or innovations that have not been publicly disclosed or released without first checking with your business unit management or your LCA patent contact."
