Nokia supports Digital India program, says CEO Rajeev Suri

NEW DELHI: Finnish mobile communications company Nokia Corp. Tuesday said that it can play a role to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Digital India initiative that includes manufacturing in the country.

Rajeev Suri, President and Chief Executive Officer at Nokia met Modi and discussed its participation in the country’s transformation through telecom and technology interventions under the Digital India initiative.

The focus of the meeting was on Nokia’s India operations and the role it can play in the India’s flagship initiatives such as Digital India and Make in India, Nokia said in a statement.

“We are on the path to a connected world where people and tens of billions of devices will be linked together in extraordinary ways, creating new social and economic opportunities for all,” Suri said in the statement.

Countries like India, with their demographic dividend and comfort with mobile technology, are in a position to benefit immensely from this development, and thus initiatives like Digital India are crucial, Suri added.

Nokia, with its three strong businesses of Networks, HERE and technologies, and its manufacturing and research and service delivery operations in India, claims to be suitably positioned to support these initiatives.
