PUDUCHERRY: Reliance Communications today launched its high-speed wireless Internet service in seven new Tamil Nadu and Puducherry towns, an event it described as a "catalyst in the government's effort to drive broadband penetration in the country."

"India's fastest wireless Internet service in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is an important milestone for Reliance and will act as a catalyst in the government's effort to drive broadband penetration in the country," Reliance Communications Hub Head (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) Rakesh K Singh told reporters after the launch of its 'Netconnect Plus' broadband service.

The new towns where the service has been launched are Puducherry, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Chidamabram, Panruti, Neyveli and Villupuram.

'Netconnect Plus' is available in both prepaid and post paid platforms with a range of plans, based on customer needs.

Singh said the launch will significantly enhance broadband coverage in India and make high-speed Internet available to customers in many areas and localities.

The company aims to offer Netconnect Plus services in 400 towns in Tamil Nadu by January 15, 2011, compared to 143 big and small towns at present, he said.
