MySpace launches MySpace India
MySpace, the US-based social networking website, on Thursday announced the launch of MySpace India, a new dedicated social networking site designed for Indian users.
Addressing a press conference here, MySpace CEO Amit Kapur said both SRK and Madonna have their profiles and list of their songs in the music page of the website.
"It is a unique method of telling fans about themselves and their music. MySpace is colourful and self-expressive than other social networking sites available on the internet," he said.
Kapur said MySpace has completed four-and-half years in the business of social networking and had 250 million registered users worldwide. "We give unique tools to the users to create a colourful environment on the site," he said and added that pro-active security measures are in place to screen the content.
Speaking about the revenue model, Kapur said advertising forms the largest chunk of revenue. "It is a sustainable business model. Young people are spending time on the site. It is a target audience and the advertisers know that they are not wasting money," he added.
When asked whether MySpace had delayed its entry into the Indian market where Orkut and Facebook have garnered a sizeable chunk, Kapur said broadband penetration into India has grown considerably and there were good opportunities for online advertising.
"This is a critical point in the Indian market and this was the right time for us," he added.
