Manipur government lifts block on Internet
IMPHAL: Manipur government has lifted the block on Internet services, which was imposed in the state since September 1, officials said today.

The block was lifted last evening, they said.

The Internet services were blocked following uploading of provocative remarks and photos, which the authorities felt, could ignite communal violence in the state among Internet users, officials said.

As a result there was complete stop to use of social media like Facebook. Internet banking services were also affected.

Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Gaikhangam had said the ban was necessitated to prevent rumour-mongers and others from spreading provocative remarks and pictures among Internet users in Manipur.
