Kerala MLA VT Balram reprimanded for posting Bill draft on Facebook

Balram was today reprimanded by Assembly Speaker Karthikeyan for posting the draft of his Bill on the social network site Facebook.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress MLA V T Balram was today reprimanded by Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan for posting the draft of his Bill on the social network site Facebook.

Balram posted the draft of the Bill that he had planned to introduce in the House before getting the necessary consent under Assembly rules.

The draft of his Bill on wages and working conditions of nurses in private hospitals in Kerala was in the public domain even before it was introduced in the House.

Terming as "unfortunate" the act of Balram, representing Thrithala assembly segment in Palakkad district, Karthikeyan said he was not taking any punitive action against him as he was a first time MLA and not aware of assembly procedures.

Karthikeyan said putting the draft of the Bill in the public domain before getting the approval of the Legislative Secretariat was violative of Assembly rules.
