Trai speed data finds Reliance Jio network fastest in February

KOLKATA: The average download speed on Reliance Jio Infocomm’s 4G network was the highest in February at 16.48 megabit per second (Mbps), according to latest speed test data put out by the telecom regulator.

Accordingly, Jio has outpaced market leader Bharti Airtel, which had been rated the fastest 4G network operator in India by US-based global broadband tester, Ookla.

In fact, February data on mobile data speeds put out by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( Trai) relegates the Bharti Airtel network to third spot with an average download speed of 10.43 Mbps, with Idea Cellular at second spot — behind Jio — with an average download speed of 12.09 Mbps.

Average download speed on Vodafone India’s 4G network in February was significantly lower at 7.93 Mbps.

Latest Trai data on 4G download speeds of top telcos comes in the aftermath of Jio and Airtel locking horns over the latter’s TC commercial that claimed it was the fastest 4G network. Last week, advertising watchdog had upheld Jio’s complaint that Airtel’s TV commercial depicting it as having the fastest network was misleading.
